To provide the student with basic methods of the computer simulation of physical systems.
Learning outcomes
Introduire l'étudiant aux méthodes de la simulation numérique en physique.
Objectifs d'apprentissage
[b]Ordinary differential equations:[/b] methods for numerical integration: multistep algorithms and implicit algorithms.[br/][br/][b]Classical molecular dynamics:[/b] Verlet algorithm, predictor-corrector algorithms, determination of macroscopic parameters, Nosé-Hoover thermostat, constraints, Ewald summations, application to Lennard-Jones liquids.[br/][br/][b]Random variables:[/b] definitions and properties, generators and distribution functions, central-limit theorem.[br/][br/][b]Random walks:[/b] binomial and Gaussian distributions, particle diffusion, Brownian motion.[br/][br/][b]Monte Carlo integration:[/b] direct sampling, importance sampling, Metropolis algorithm, errors in correlated sampling, Monte-Carlo simulations of Lennard-Jones liquids and of two-dimensional spin systems.[br/]
